The coast running south from Athens is the practical choice: guests land and reach the venue within half an hour, there is no ferry to miss, and the hotels along the water know weddings. It suits couples whose guests are coming from several countries, and anyone who wants a city on hand either side of the day.

Why the Riviera

Most destination weddings ask
something of the guests.

An island asks for a ferry, a connection and a long day of travel. The Riviera asks for a taxi. That's the whole argument — and the sea is the reason to stay.

Easy to reach

Direct flights from most of Europe all year. No ferry, no second leg — a taxi from the airport to the venue.

Villas above private coves, estates by the water, ceremonies at sunset with the sea behind.

A long season

Late April to June and September into October; spring and autumn are gentle, summer reliably dry.

The city close by

Guests build a holiday around the weekend — the Acropolis, the restaurants, a real city, half an hour away.

City or coast

The two faces
of Athens.

Athens doesn't have one look. Most couples choose the setting before the venue — city or sea is the first question, and the search is much shorter once it's answered.

Rooftop terraces with the Acropolis behind the ceremony, neoclassical houses with courtyards, and hotels with ballrooms. Guests walk to the ceremony, dine on a terrace and go on to the bars.

South of the city the coast runs from Glyfada to Sounio: villas above private coves, seaside estates and hotels on the water. Everyone together for the weekend, with the city on hand rather than around them.

  • Every guest on one list, with who has answered
  • Venue enquiries and offers in one conversation each
  • A wedding website at your own address

Questions

Asked often.
Answered plainly.

01 Do we need a wedding planner for Athens?

Not necessarily. Athens is the easiest place in Greece to organise from abroad — vendors are used to international couples, English is widely spoken, and there's no ferry timetable to plan around. Many couples plan it themselves with a good list and a coordinator for the day; others hand it all to a planner. Aemeli works either way.

02 How many guests do weddings on the Riviera usually have?

Anything from a dinner for twenty to a party for two hundred. Fewer guests than at home is normal — not everyone can travel — so a first list of 150 often lands closer to 100. Plan the venue around the number who will actually come, not the number you would like to invite.

03 Is the Riviera expensive for a wedding?

It depends almost entirely on the venue and the guest count. Athens has more choice than the islands at every level, and the season is longer, so a date outside July and August can move the cost noticeably. The cost guide walks through what drives it.

04 Can our guests combine the wedding with a holiday?

Yes, and most will. The city for the days before, the coast or a nearby island for the days after, all without changing hotels if they stay somewhere central. That is one of the reasons couples pick Athens over an island for a mixed group of guests.
